How to play
Capture lines, force passes, and own the final count.
Othello is played on an 8x8 board. Every legal move must trap at least one opposing disc in a straight line, and every trapped disc flips to your color immediately.
Othello is played on an 8x8 board. Every legal move must trap at least one opposing disc in a straight line, and every trapped disc flips to your color immediately.
Core rules
1. Start from the standard four-disc setup in the center of the board.
2. Place a disc only where it brackets one or more opponent discs in a row, column, or diagonal.
3. Flip every bracketed disc after the move resolves.
4. If your side has no legal move, your turn is passed automatically.
5. The game ends when neither side can move. The higher disc count wins.
Example
In this sample, the highlighted square flips white discs because it closes a line with an existing black disc.
